Paralyzed

Paralyzed

Here's a quick thought for today:

Ernest Hemingway, one of the 20th century's most distinguished writers, frequently explored themes of courage, stoicism, and the art of life's struggle in his works. Drawing upon his adventurous life experiences, his narratives resonate with resilience and resourcefulness, much like the inspiring words found in "The Old Man and the Sea," which urge us to make the most of what we have at hand.

"Now is no time to think of what you do not have. Think of what you can do with what there is."

Every day we are required to be resourceful and think on our feet. Whether it's how to get in when the key breaks off, or how to schedule a busy weekend, we find ourselves looking for the tools we need to get the job done.

Often we become paralyzed in the moment because we wish we had the one extra thing. Or if only we subscribed to that one Youtube channel, or bought the course, or shipped the equipment, or hired the person...or...or...or....

We beat ourselves up about our lack of preparedness or foresight. So, we stop in our tracks as we wish for things we don't have. Will that actually solve the problem we're facing? (hint...no)

What's one to do?

1) Promise yourself you won't let this happen again

- Instead of beating yourself up or being angry that you don't have "the thing", acknowledge it's not the best situation, but you'll work through it.

2) Look at your current resources and use what you can to get it done.

- It may not be pretty. It may not be exactly what you wanted, but it'll be done. You'll learn to maximize the things you do have and get the most out of them (possibly even saving you money!) You'll also learn that you really can do a lot without all of the bells and whistles in the world.

3) After it's over, sit down and make a better plan for next time.

- Now actually assess if you really needed the item, training, SOP, or whatever. Pat yourself on the back for using your existing resources, and make the necessary changes.

Being resourceful isn't just about saving money. It's about using your gifts and talents in new ways, being creative with the things you already have, and then making smarter decisions moving forward.
